Mahatma Phule remembered

Social reformer Mahatma Phule was remembered on the occasion of his 198th birth anniversary and people rededicated themselves to fight social inequalities.

Visakhapatnam Member of Parliament Khambampati Haribabu garlanded the statue of Mahatma Jyoti Rao Phule here on Saturday.

Leaders of Congress party, including APCC general secretary Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao, DCC president P. Balaraju, former minister Sailajanath, among others garlanded a portrait of Mahatma Phule at the City Congress office. At NSTL, chairman, Board of Studies of Mechanical Engineering in Andhra University College of Engineering (Autonomous) K. Venkata Subbaiah, and CAO of NSTL K.V.N. Rao recalled the selfless service of Mahatma Phule.

Including Mahatma Jyotirao Phule's life history in syllabus is being considered since his life was a great inspiration for the downtrodden sections, Minister for HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao said at a programme organised by the Department of BC Welfare MLAs Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar wanted Bharat Ratna awarded to Jyotirao Phule.
