More than 6,000 advocates in the district boycotted courts in Visakhapatnam, Gajuwaka, Anakapalle, Narsipatnam and other places on Monday in protest against the attack on judicial officers and advocates belonging to Andhra Pradesh in Hyderabad on February 27 and to press for immediate constitution of a High Court for Andhra Pradesh and to locate the same in Visakhapatnam.

President of the Visakhapatnam Bar Association J. Pridhviraj said the attack on judicial officers in Hyderabad while they were entering the Ranga Reddy District Court premises and the incident involving some Telangana advocates at the A.P. Bar Council office premises, were highly condemnable.

The State and Central Governments should immediately take steps to constitute separate High Courts for A.P. and Telangana, he said.

In continuation of a meeting of members of A.P. Bar Council and presidents and secretaries of bar associations in 13 districts held here last month seeking constitution of High Court for A.P., the Joint Action Committee of advocates would meet in Guntur on March 8 to chalk out further course of action, he said.

Members of A.P. Bar Council S. Krishna Mohan and Ch. Madhavi Lata, bar association secretary M.S. Madhav and senior advocates addressed the advocates .

The advocates closed the gates of District Courts Complex and held up traffic for a brief while on the road in front of the courts complex.

To show that advocates in Visakhapatnam had respect for and affection towards judicial officers belonging to Telangana, advocates presented flower bouquets to four judicial officers who are native of Telangana.

Advocates held demonstrations in other parts of the district and demanded that advocates and judicial officers from A.P. in Telangana be provided protection.
