With the centenary celebrations of the Lions Club International scheduled in 2017, the club members of District 316A: 2013-14 started off with ‘Seva Mahotsav.’ It was like a carnival at Dr. Y.V.S. Murthy Auditorium where around 150 wheelchairs were given away as part of the celebrations to differently-abled persons from Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, East Godavari, and Visakhapatnam.

With the theme as ‘impact’ and slogan as ‘love to serve’ supporting the cause, the celebrations here included dance performance and felicitation of the club members who have been driven by the instinct to serve.

Felicitated

More than 460 club members belonging to District 316A were felicitated on the occasion in which 225 members have served the association for more than 25 years. Those recognised as Melvin Jones Fellowship and had contributed $ 1,000 towards charity works catering to diverse needs were also honoured.

After the distribution of the wheelchairs to the needy, District Governor of the club V.S.V.D. Siva Prasad said: “With this programme, we have initiated our centenary celebrations which will continue till 2017. With the help and support of our team members we are able to design various projects catering to the weaker sections.”

Group’s second international vice-president Naresh Aggarwal confirmed that ‘Seva Mahotsav’ was just a beginning and in future, similar events would be hosted in a phased manner.

R. Murugan, the group’s international director from Trivandrum said: “It is nice to see that we are able to procure wheelchairs from the US-based company that focuses on quality. We plan to organise annual events across the country,”
