‘Learn Telugu to enjoy Carnatic music’

Priya Sisters give away prizes to winners of various competitions

To enjoy Carnatic music one should sing in Telugu and to learn Telugu one should listen to Carnatic music, Carnatic music exponent Nedunuri Krishna Murthy said.

Speaking at the valedictory of the Music Fest organised by Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vihar at MVP Colony here on Saturday, he recalled that Sri Sathya Sai Baba loved music. He along with Carnatic exponents Priya Sisters – Shanmukha Priya and Haripriya – were felicitated on the occasion. Priya Sisters gave away prizes to students from different schools who won prizes in the competitions conducted earlier by the school in categories like Carnatic vocal, Hindustani vocal, Western vocal, folk, fusion, medley, instrumental, devotional and patriotic songs.

Winners

Students of Zinc Smelter School won the first prize in Folk singing, with students of Ramanath Secondary School NSTL and Gayatri Vidya Parishad coming runners up.

In medley, students of Gyana Saraswathi Sangeetha Nilayam picked up the first prize while students of Sacred Hearts Girls High School were runners up. In fusion music students of Sri Sri Music Academy were winners while runners up were students of Gayatri Vidya Parishad. In instrumental music Sri Sri Music Academy students were declared winners and students of DAV Ukkunagaram runners up. Students of DAV Butchirajupalem came first in Carnatic vocal and students of Sri Sri Music Academy were runners up. In devotional music students of Visakha Valley School were winners and students of both DAV Butchirajupalem and Kotak Salesian School were declared runners up.

In patriotic song category students of Ramanath Secondary School NSTL were winners while students of Kendriya Vidyalaya II Srivijayanagar and students of BHPV Senior Secondary School were runners up. Students of Symphony Music Academy were the winners in the Western classical music category. Later, Priya Sisters enthralled the audience with their rendition of classical music and some compositions in praise of Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
