The proposed Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) in Visakhapatnam seems to be taking a final shape with the State Government completing identification of land.

Project Director (e-seva) of IT and Communication Department, AP, D. Divya told a meeting organised here to showcase investment potential in the region in connection with the visit of a delegation of Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce that they were in advance stage of submitting the project report to the Centre for approval.

The demand for ITIR in Visakhapatnam gained momentum after the Union Cabinet cleared the State’s first ITIR in Hyderabad during Samaikhyandhra agitation. Later Minister for IT Ponnala Lakshmaiah issued a statement saying that ITIR for Visakhapatnam would also be pursued.

Ms. Divya in her presentation said four per cent of area earmarked for Visakhapatnam ITIR would have processing area and the remaining extent residential townships, educational institutes, hotels and recreation facilities.

She said an electronic hardware cluster would come either at Parawada or Gannavaram. Animation and gaming industry was also set to achieve a big boom with the government announcing a slew of incentives to the investors. She said the industry was projected to increase to $243 billion by 2016 from $154 billion in 2012.
