Kollam special train to resume from Sept. 8

Visakhapatnam – Kollam special train to run as a bi-weekly from September 8 to 29 to clear Onam rush

September 05, 2013 12:22 pm | Updated June 13, 2016 08:47 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The Visakhapatnam – Kollam special, which was withdrawn recently, will once again run as a bi-weekly special train temporarily in view of the huge rush of pilgrims for the forthcoming Onam festival.

It may be recalled that it was decided to make the Visakhapatnam – Kollam Express into a regular train during this year’s budget. The introduction of the regular train was being delayed on the plea of non-availability of a rake.

Kairali Arts Club of Gajuwaka has been following up the matter with officials of Waltair Division for introduction of the regular train. It has also sought extension of the special train pending introduction of the regular train.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the railways has decided to operate the Visakhapatnam-Kollam special as a bi-weekly with effect from September 8 to 29 for the benefit of passengers visiting Kerala for the Onam festival. The special train will be operated on Sundays and Thursdays.

Kairali Arts Club president N. Dhanapalan and general secretary K.V.M. Kurup thanked the Divisional Railway Manager Anil Kumar and other officials for restoration of the special train.
