President of Visakha District Olympic Association S. Kodandaramaiah, who is in the field of sports as a player, coach and administrator for 50 years, announced here on Monday that he was retiring from active administration.
The former National volleyball coach and at present vice-president of the Volleyball Federation of India, said he was quitting so that new blood would take over the sports administration. He always took a strong stand on all the issues and received good support from all sections, Mr. Kodandaramiah said while thanking all the sports associations, sportspersons and administrators for their support.
He announced his decision to retire from active sports life at a meeting of the VDOA and urged the sports association to start working towards building a strong AP Olympic Association for the residual Andhra Pradesh after the present APOA representing all the 23 districts would cease to exist once the State was bifurcated officially on June 2. “There is also need to create high quality sports facilities once the new State was created and to intensify efforts for an international standard sports complex in the city. We have made many efforts, received many promises but the complex did not take off. But we must realise our dream and help our sportspersons to have this complex”, Mr. Kodandaramiah said.
