Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy participated in a string of inaugurations during his visit to the city on Thursday. At Vepagunta, he inaugurated the new Thatipudi pipeline from Thatipudi reservoir to the city taken up at a cost of Rs.62.28 crore under the Centrally-sponsored Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation. While the Centre and State Governments foot 50 per cent and 20 per cent of the cost respectively, the GVMC contributes 20 per cent.
The old pipeline was replaced plugging leakages other losses amounting to 4 million gallons per day (gmd).
The Chief Minister later inaugurated the 13 million litres per day sewerage treatment plant (STP), also constructed under JNNURM at a cost of Rs.40.6 crore, at Mudasarlova. The STP is a part of the underground drainage for Ward 2 and part of Wards 1, 3 and 6. As of now, 3,100 service connections are provided.
Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy inaugurated the new building of AU College of Engineering for Women. Earlier, he visited the Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences where the first phase of construction was completed spending Rs.39.17 crore.
