From now onwards the interest subsidy under the ‘Paavala Vaddi' scheme would be credited directly into the bank accounts of the SHGs at their villages, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy announced during the second phase of Rachabanda programme he launched in the district here on Wednesday.

Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy also provided an additional sop to the women in the shape of extending a personal loan up to Rs. 15,000 from the Stree Nidhi fund for those whose were prompt in paying instalments.

To the farmers the government would pay interest on the crop loan up to Rs. 1 lakh during a year if the repayment was prompt.

Though the exercise of having an interaction with the beneficiaries, for which a separate stage was erected and the officials were waiting around it, and which would have reflected the spirit of Rachabanda, was not held, the Chief Minister on a few occasions wanted the large gathering to react to his queries and to one such question the women said they were not getting the ‘Paavala Vaddi' subsidy.

It was then that Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy announced that the amount would be credited directly into the bank accounts of SHGs.

Hither to, it was coming to them after a delay through the Zilla Samakhyas and Mandal Samakhyas.

Earlier, the Chief Minister said programme could be considered a real Rachabanda only when it gave the desired results of the various government programmes meant for the poor and downtrodden sections.

During the second phase of Rachabanda, a total of 1.59 lakh families would be issued ration cards, 23,000 would be issued pensions, and 30,000 would be given houses in the district.

Polavaram project

The Chief Minister said the Polavaram irrigation project would be launched soon since the tender process was completed.

It would irrigate a large area in Krishna, East Godavari, West Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, and Vizianagaram districts.

On industrialisation, Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy said land was needed for industries, which would provide employment and as far as possible land which was not cultivable must be acquired.
