A pall of gloom descended at Bheemunipatnam and at Visalakshinagar area in the city as news of the boat tragedy at Alappuzha in Kerala in which Eilisetti Nagamani (26) of Bheemunipatnam and her husband, Meesala Krishna Venkata Sagar (30), were killed on Tuesday.

Sagar is a software engineer in the US. Nagamani had completed her M. Tech this year. The couple were married on May 31 and were supposed to leave for the US on June 20. They decided to go on a honeymoon trip to Alappuzha as the visa procedures would take sometime. They went to Kerala on June 8, according to Ramana Rao, a relative of Sagar.

The couple went for a boat ride in the backwaters of the Punnamada lake on Tuesday afternoon. The boat sank following gales and heavy rain. The boat driver and helper swam to safety. The body of Nagamani was retrieved by the rescue personnel pressed into service by the Kerala administration. She was identified based on the identity cards and other documents available in her hand bag. The body of Sagar was not found. “We haven’t received information about him . The Kerala officials said that a search was on to trace his body,” said his father, Appa Rao, who was in a state of shock. Relatives rushed to Kerala to take possession of the body of Nagamani. Some of them will return with the body, while some will stay back to get information about Sagar.
