Freedom fighter Alluri Sitaram Raju, mathematician C.R. Rao and Nobel laureate C.V. Raman are among the many prominent persons who have studied in this institution established in 1860. The college has not only contributed richly to the city but also to the State imparting quality education, acquiring competency and shouldering responsibilities for many years, said Chairman and Managing Director of RINL, Visakhapatnam A.P. Chowdhary addressing the gathering at Mrs. A.V.N. College on Tuesday.
“The credit goes to the principals, staff and the students who contributed to the success of the college.” He announced that he would be happy to extend help to the college in the future. The152nd Founder’s Day celebrations of Mrs. A.V.N. College kick started with ‘Dhimsa’ dance by a group of 10 students. The occasion saw former Mayor D.V. Subba Rao, Principal of the college R. Kanna Rao, faculty members, invitees and dignitaries paying rich tributes to the founder of the college A.V. Narasinga Row.
Referring to the Nobel laureate and successful scientists who have emerged out of a little above than one and half century old institution, COO of Visakha Container Terminal Private Ltd Capt. Ravi Chander said that the destiny lies in the hands of the students. “When the alumni can make a difference with their academic excellence, the present generation can also focus on similar achievements as well. One should be prepared to shoulder more responsibilities to attain success,” he said.
The college has kept its dream alive for the last 152 years and has grown along with the traditions. It has produced many distinguished alumni who have earned fame to the college, said Vice-Chairperson and correspondent of the college A. Indrani Jagga Row. She told the students to work hard and bring back the pristine glory of the college.
An amount of Rs.1.2 crore has been sanctioned to the college by UGC for the construction of classrooms, ladies hostel apart from establishing computerised library and other facilities. VUDA has funded Rs.1.6 crore to construct a new building with exclusive classroom facility on the premises. The works will be completed by the coming financial year, she said.
