In a fight between two groups of the Congress party, the one led by Elamanchili MLA U.V. Ramanamurthy Raju (Kannababu) triumphed in the elections to the posts of Directors of the District Cooperative Central Bank (DCCB) on Monday. The Telugu Desam and YSR Congress supporters participated in the election, the former disobeying the party’s directive to stay away from the election.

Son of Mr. Kannababu, Sukumar Varma is all set to claim the post of president of DCCB in the election to be held on Tuesday.

The group led by DCC president Karanam Dharmasri, who was a strong aspirant for the post of DCCB president but could not contest as his PACS was put on default list, managed two posts while that of Mr. Kannababu bagged eight in the A group of directors posts, which were elected by presidents of PACS. In group B, elected by presidents of other cooperative societies representing fishermen, weavers, employees associations, etc. Congress and Telugu Desam won one each.

Out of the 74 PACS presidents eligible to participate in the election of DCCB directors, 47 are Congress supporters, 19 and 16 respectively of the TD and YSRC. Three did not turn up and one each of them is supporter of TD and Congress while another claimed he was independent.

Supporters of Telugu Desam, participating in the election and largely supporting the Elamanchili MLA’s group, was the result of internal bickering in Telugu Desam and the YSR Congress supporters also supported this group as the number of votes the successful candidates received had indicated.

Those won were B. Demudu Naidu (Ommili), M. Mahalakshmi (Jannavaram), G. Satyadeva (Kothakota), U. Sukumar Varma (Rambilli), Chelluri Paidappadu (Majjivalsa), S. Srinivasa Rao (Kasimkota), G. Kannababu (Namavaram), N.K.V.V. Satyanarayana (Kondakarla), P. Appa Rao (Anandapuram) and S. Giribabu (Reddipalli).

Srinathu Srinivasa Rao from Madugula and Gaduthuri Babu Rao from G.K. Veedhi, who are from the areas represented by Mr. Dharmasri and Tribal Welfare Minister P. Balaraju respectively were defeated.

Earlier elections to the posts of directors of District Cooperative Marketing Society were unanimous. Seven directors – Boda Narayana, B. Venkanna Patrudu, M. Mahalakshmi Naidu, A. Bangarraju, R.Ch.S.L. Sanyasi Raju, D. Sanyasi Dora and Rudraraju Ramakrishna Raju were elected. Among them Mr. Venkanna Patrudu from Gondupalem in K. Kotapadu mandal is expected to the elected as president of DCMS. While the seven were elected from A group, the three posts in B group could not be filled up as eligible candidates from the reserved categories were not found. The posts would be filled up through cooption later.
