Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas on Tuesday advised tribal people not to consume dead meat as it would lead to spread of diseases such as anthrax. He said 11,500 head of cattle had been vaccinated in the tribal areas as a preventive measure.

The Minister visited the remote areas in Sithampet mandal to instil confidence among the tribal people who were in jitters following outbreak of epidemics during the rainy season.

He visited places such as Kusimi, Malli, Jakkaravalasa, Manda, Kirapa, Pedarama, and Devanapuram to know about the medical and health conditions. He interacted with women and students in hostels and inspected schools and community halls. He advised people not to keep animals in their vicinity as it would lead to spread of diseases quickly. Mr. Srinivas also asked them to consume only hot water in the season as it would improve immunity and prevent many diseases at the initial stage itself.

Vacancies

The Minister asked wardens and teachers to provide quick medical help to the students suffering from viral fevers.

He enquired about the vacancies in the hospitals located in the Agency areas.

District Collector K. Dhanunjaya Reddy told him that the administration had issued a notification for appointment of 9 pharmacists, 18 nurses, and 45 ANMs as early as possible.

“We are going to provide new vehicles for all the hospitals in the Agency area. The medical teams can move easily in the remote areas,” he added.

“We will also provide X-ray and other equipment to the hospitals. The patients need not go all the way to Srikakulam and other places for tests,” said Mr. Srinivas.

The Minister expressed happiness over the preventive measures taken in the district.

Palakonda MLA V. Kalavati, ITDA Project Officer L. Siva Sankar, and District Medical and Health Officer S. Tirupati Rao accompanied the Minister.

Mr. Srinivas would visit various places in Jiyammavalasa of Vizianagaram district on Wednesday.

Later, he would review the medical and health conditions with officials in the ITDA office at Parvatipuram, officials said.
