Meeting to be held on action plan on anaemia in Agency

Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas formally inaugurated the revived cobalt therapy unit at the Oncology Department of the King George Hospital (KGH) here on Saturday.

The cobalt unit, which was in use at the hospital for the past several years, stopped functioning in January 2015 as the strength of the radioactive material had decreased.

The Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) had sanctioned ₹54 lakh and an additional ₹24 lakh was sanctioned by the Collector from the Hospital Development Society funds for its revival.

The Minister appreciated the Head of the Oncology Department N. Sujatha for her efforts in getting the unit revived. KGH Superintendent G. Arjuna was present.

Replying to queries from the media, the Minister that a meeting would be held in the city on April 17 to formulate an integrated action plan for overcoming the problem anaemia in the Agency areas of the district. Officials of the Women and Child Welfare Department, Social Welfare and Medical and Health Department will participate in the meet.

Another meeting would be held on April 18 to discuss the issue of regularisation of contract workers
