Unique tourist destination of the city Kailasagiri will soon get a huge metal sign.

“Like the famous Hollywood sign, Kailasagiri in metal letters is getting ready,” VUDA Vice-Chairman Kona Sasidhar has said. The letters will be in place in all probability by the time of Visakha Utsav scheduled for December. The Union Tourism Secretary had suggested that such an iconic sign should be set up.

Mr. Sasidhar was interacting with reporters after a visit to the Telugu Samskrutika Niketanam along with Union Minister for Human Resource Development D. Purandeswari and AP Hindi Academy Chairman Y. Lakshmi Prasad.

Reacting to Dr. Lakshmi Prasad’s enquiry on whether a demarcated zone could be created to attract foreign tourists by providing them facilities, he said right now a decision on allowing non-vegetarian food on Kailasagiri was pending.

Those running food stalls on the hilltop tourist attraction came to him stating that tourists from north India and other States were bringing packed non-vegetarian food and throwing the remains attracting dogs that rummage for leftovers.

A committee with GVMC and VUDA officials was formed to see whether a zone 100-metre away from Siva, Parvati idols could be created. However, no decision had been taken, Mr. Sasidhar said adding there was a need to carry everyone together when it was being proposed to be developed as an international tourist hub.

On the development of Thotlakonda, he said the District Collector had been requested to transfer the land. A design for the development of a beach park was getting ready.
