The junior doctors of the Andhra Medical College joined the State-wide agitation demanding that the Government improve the amenities in Government teaching hospitals.
The junior doctors staged a dharna at the gate of the King George Hospital on Monday morning and later on took out a rally in the hospital.
They demanded that the Government take steps to provide infrastructure in the teaching hospitals as per the guidelines of the Medical Council of India and improve the facilities to ensure better patient care, president of AMC Junior Doctors’ Association Shanawaz, said.
Rural service
The junior doctors wanted the doctors serving in rural areas be paid on par with a medical officer and demanded that only post-graduate doctors be posted in community heath centres or its equivalent.
They opposed the increase in rural service tenure to three years and demanded that it be limited to one year.
The junior doctors wanted the security perimeter of the King George Hospital improved immediately. Attendants of patients were attacking the duty doctors because the infrastructure was not enough, he said, and demanded that the Government to take steps to improve the lab and diagnostic facilities in the hospital to improve the patient care.
The protesting doctors also demanded that all the vacant posts in the hospitals be filled in immediately.
They will intensify the stir if the Government did not respond, former president of the junior doctors’ association V. Kalyan said. On Tuesday, the junior doctors plan to take out a funeral procession of the Government in effigy, he added.
