Vacant land tax (VLT) will have to be paid by July 31 and so far 20,000 notices have been issued to owners of such lands.

At a meeting on revenue generation on Wednesday, Municipal Commissioner M.V. Satyanarayana said the VLT due from about 50,000 vacant lands was estimated at Rs.100 crore. Besides, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant owed Rs.50 crore.

He asked all the Revenue officials to campaign for payment of VLT and also make it a point to issue VLT notices after ascertaining the details of ownership.

Mr. Satyanarayana said if VLT was not paid on time, GVMC had the right to auction such land under Revenue Recovery Act.

Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) R. Somannarayana gave details of VLT estimates and the steps being taken to realise it.

Additional Commissioner (Projects) B. Nagendra Kumar participated.
