Third convocation of GITAM University held

Whenever a university is measured for its value and performance, it is the societal value added by the graduates and alumni that should be evaluated and not the performance of the management, Secretary Department of Science and Technology Government of India T. Ramasami said.

“All the ranking in global systems is made on the basis of success of an institution in the marketplace of education.

When education becomes a product transacted between educational entities and the educated for exchange of money, the pristine quality of education as a process would undergo undesirable changes.

Under such circumstances, leadership gives way to management priorities,” he warned while delivering the convocation address of the GITAM University’s third convocation here on Saturday. He called on the students to take inspiration from people like Gautam Buddha, Mahatma Gandhi, Sir CV Raman, JN Tata and Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.

GITAM University conferred honorary doctorates on T Ramasami, music legend Nedunuri Krishnamurthy, eminent neurosurgeon S Balaparameswara Rao and founder of Oberoi Group of Hotels Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi on the occasion. Arjun Oberoi received the doctorate on behalf of his father.
