Ninety-six housing units constructed under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) will be inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development D. Purandeswari on Friday. The houses have been constructed with a total cost of Rs.2.03 crore.

At Relliveedhi in Rajendranagar 200 houses were constructed for the economically weaker sections (EWS) during 1997-98. However, still some left behind have been leading a miserable life in huts. To provide housing to them, GVMC took up the construction of houses under JNNURM. The development of the slum has been taken up in situ.

A total of 96 housing units have been constructed in six blocks in G+3 structures. Each of the unit is constructed in 25.35 sq m of land. While 59 of the units have been allotted to those belonging to SC, one to ST, 29 to BCs and seven allotted to those in open category. Each of the unit costs Rs.1.65 lakh of which 50 per cent and 20 per cent respectively are in the form of subsidy from the Central and State governments. Of the remaining, Rs.35,000 is bank loan, Rs.20,000 is beneficiary share and Rs.6,000 again a subsidy of the state government.
