Janmashtami celebrations concluded at many temples in the city on Sunday with devotees participating in large numbers in spite of downpour in the afternoon and evening.
At the celebrations organised by Hare Krishna Movement at the Alwardas Grounds in MVP Colony, a special feast was organised for the devotees to celebrate the arrival of Lord Krishna in the home of Nanda. The celebration called Nandotsav saw a large number of devotees partake the feast, according to a statement issued by the Hare Krishna Movement.
Nandotsava day is also known as Vyasa Puja as this day marks the birth of Bhakti Vedanta Swami Prabhupada and a grand Guru puja was arranged and a special event of offering cooked items (satvik foods) was organised on the occasion. Special lecture on Nandostavam and Vyasa Puja was given by president of Hare Krishna Movement Niskinchana Bhakta Dasa. Cultural programmes were also organised for the devotees.
At the ISKCON Temple at Sagarnagar, Nandotsavam was celebrated on Sunday. In the evening prizes were given away to winners of various competitions organised by ISKCON for Janmashtami. Surabhi theatre troupe from Hyderabad staged the famous mythological play Mayabazar.
