Jan Ahar licence ‘cancelled’

August 12, 2017 12:48 am | Updated 12:48 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM

The licence of Jan Ahar, M/s Mahadev Sales Agencies, catering unit at Visakhapatnam Railway Station, was cancelled following the circulation of the video footage on social media showing food, spilled on to the platform floor at Visakahaptnam station, being refilled into a casserole by the catering staff, sources said here on Friday.

The licence was awarded to the contractor in August last year. The railway authorities had initially warned the licensee apart from asking the firm to disengage the staff involved and to pay a penalty of ₹ 8,000 after investigation on the day of the incident.

It’s learnt that the penalty was enhanced to ₹1,00,000 for non-discharge of the obligation to provide quality and hygienic food along with cleanliness in handling the food, taking into consideration the seriousness of the issue.

The penalty of ₹1 lakh was realised from the licensee but the license of the catering unit was terminated late on Thursday night, according to sources.
