Judge of the Mahila Sessions Court N. Raja Prasad Baba on Friday found Relangi Jagadish and his mother Swarnakumari guilty under Section 304 B for driving his wife Lakshmi Chandra to commit suicide, and sentenced each one of them to undergo 10 years imprisonment and to pay a fine of Rs. 10,000.

According to prosecution submitted by Kondru Aruna, Jagadish (31) of Ambedkar Colony in Pedagantyada married Lakshmi Chandra (27) on March 12, 2009. He had received Rs. 3 lakh as dowry, 8 tolas of gold ornaments, some additional cash, and a house site at the time of marriage.

But he and his mother started harassing Lakshmi Chandra for additional dowry of Rs. 5 lakh.

The harassment did not stop even after some mediators intervened. On April 19, 2010, Lakshmi Chandra hanged herself in her in-laws house. The Gajuwaka police registered the case and investigated.
