Tense situation prevailed at Ambedkar Circle junction near LIC on Thursday with Uttarandhra Political JAC leader J.T. Rama Rao climbing a huge advertisement hoarding and threatening to jump to death to express his ire as no mention was made in the Railway budget regarding the long-pending demand for a separate railway zone with Visakhapatnam as its headquarters.
Scores of representatives of various organisations and passers-by gathered in large numbers. On getting information police and fire personnel arrived on the scene and tried to persuade Mr. Rama Rao to come down. He, however, refused to relent unless a firm assurance was given on the demand for a separate railway zone with Visakhapatnam as its headquarters.
Minister for Infrastructure and Investments Ganta Srinivasa Rao rushed to the spot and called Mr. Rama Rao on his mobile and appealed to him to come down saying that he would take up the matter with the government. The JAC leader came down after getting the assurance from the Minister.
