In one corner, the advantages of opting for healthy snacks were explained by pre-primary students. At the far end of the hall, students of Class I talk about the importance of celebrating festivals. Directing towards the health chart, a group of little ones highlight the nutritional values of sprouted whole grains, dry fruits, fibre-rich vegetables and protein-packed pulses.

As a steady stream of visitors kept pouring in at the ETASI Timpany Senior Secondary School to view hundreds of models put up at the annual science exhibition-cum-open house, enthusiastic students queue up to explain about their projects to them.

Projects relating to fun with science, disaster management and conservation of resources formed part of the science fair that was inaugurated by school’s Parent Association president Kishore Kumar.

At one of the stalls, the precautions to be taken in times of natural calamities and measures followed to bring back the lost green sheen in the city were highlighted by Nikihita Padmanica and Sharini Zoya, Class VIII students.

Focus on Hudhud

The fair consisted of a torque multiplication system created by a Class IX student Sumedh Soman. “It is one of the projects that got selected by Initiative for Research and Innovation in Science recently,” he said. A scene depicting the aftermath of cyclone Hudhud, a disaster proof city with alarm system, e-toilets that help save power and water and eco-friendly concepts of conserving energy were some of the other projects on display.

With such a wide exhibition of concepts, children said that it gives them a chance to exchange new ideas. “Some of the models are really interesting, inspiring us to drive home the message of innovation,” said Vaishnavi, a Class X student.

Among others, school Principal Vandana Abraham, director Annie Cherian and executive director David Samuel participated.
