Felicitations and other programmes mark International Women’s Day in city

A host of cultural programmes, get-togethers, felicitations and fun-filled activities marked International Women’s Day in the city on Thursday.

Bringing cheer to women employees, several organisations hosted in-house parties.

Shirin Rahman, founder president of Chaitanya Sravanthi, and 30 self-help group women were felicitated for their contribution in making Chilakapeta and parts of Beach Road Open Defecation Free zone.

Additional Commissioner General of GVMC G.V.V.S. Murthy lauded their contribution.

Nataraj Music and Dance Academy in association with the Department of Language and Culture presented International Women’s Day The Dance India Awards 2018 for selected dancers who contributed to the art field at Kalabharati Auditorium.

Bharatanatyam exponent Saroja Vaidyanathan, who attended as chief guest, briefed the richness of Indian art and culture. Ishita Pai Raikar from Singapore performed Bharatanatyam on the occasion.

Women scribes feted

Women journalists and staff members working in various media houses were felicitated at a programme organised by Vizag Journalists Forum. Second Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Shammi Parveen Sultana Begum attended as chief guest. VJF president Gantla Srinu Babu and members were present.

Women’s cell of Visakhapatnam Port Trust hosted a programme to celebrate the day with the staff members. The zonal office of Indian Bank, Andhra Bank-Sivajipalem branch, HPCL-Visakh Refinery, Coast Guard DHQ-6 and Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences celebrated the day by organising a slew of programmes. The 198 Battalion of the CRPF celebrated the day at its headquarters near Prahlada Kalyanamandapam. JCI Vizag Port City distributed saris to 150 sulabh complex workers near King George Hospital.
