The relatively safer stretch of beach at Rushikonda and effective wave energy have attracted many surfers from across the country and abroad.
The latest to experience the thrill of riding a wave were a group of students from Kolkata. A team of 60 students was in the city for a four-day surfing camp at Rushikonda organised by the Dolphin Yachting Association (DYA). The camp concluded on Tuesday. “This is the first time that such a big group of students has come here for the surfing camp. We have also approached the city schools to take part in camps here. Rushikonda has great potential for conducting water sports such as yachting, surfing, and kayaking,” said Melvill Smythe of DYA. The association has 10 body boards and four surf boards.
DYA has been promoting the sport since the past few years and also trained boys from the fishing community who have now become a part of their core team.
