Rain is forecast in all districts of coastal Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday and Wednesday as a result of the low pressure becoming well-marked and the possibility of its intensifying into a depression, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of coastal Odisha and west central Bay of Bengal lies as a well-marked low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal and coastal areas of Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh. It is very likely to intensify into a depression during the next 24 hours. The trough on sea level now runs from Odisha to South Tamil Nadu across Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.
Heavy rain at a few places, with very heavy rain at isolated places, is likely to occur over all the districts of coastal Andhra Pradesh on July 18 and heavy rain is likely at isolated places in all districts of coastal AP on July 19.
Light to moderate rain or thunder showers are very likely to occur at most places over coastal AP and light to moderate rain or thunder showers are very likely to occur at a few places over Rayalaseema during the same period.
Under the influence of the well-marked low pressure area, strong surface winds from a westerly direction, with speed reaching 50 to 55 km/hour are likely along and off coastal AP, according to the Cyclone Warning Centre (CWC) here.
The state of sea would be rough to very rough along and off coastal AP and fishermen have been advised to be cautious while venturing into the sea.
Collector’s directive
Meanwhile, District Collector of Visakhapatnam Pravin Kumar asked the officials to be on alert in view of the situation. Tehsildars have been directed to remain at their respective mandal headquarters. District officials and respective line department staff have been asked to remain at the headquarters.
The officials have been asked to pass on the information immediately to the district headquarters of any eventuality as a result of heavy rain.
