A different kind of religious programme was organised on the Andhra University Engineering College ground here on Thursday.
A large number of people fed grass to cows and sought blessings as they made ‘pradakshina’ around the animals.
“Since ‘gopuja’ is considered an auspicious ceremony, the ritual of worshipping cows is performed as part of the fourth anniversary of our trust. We want to revive our culture and create awareness among people on the native cattle breeds,” said Pydam Naidu, chairman of the Yoga Bharathi Trust that organised the programme titled ‘Lakshasarlu Gopradakshina Mahayagnam’.
The one lakh ‘gopradakshinas’ completed after every devotee made three rounds around each cow. A separate enclosure had been neatly arranged for all the 11 cows named as Brahma Rupa, Sri Krishnavallabha, Yagnaphala, Kalpavruksha, Yasoda, Subhadra, Rudramata, Suseela, Surabhi, Bahula, and Nanda. The ritual was followed by an hour-long spiritual discourse and ‘Omkara Naama Mahajapam’.
Ever since its inception in 2011, the trust has been conducting mass events such as ‘Laksha Surya Namaskara Yagnam’, ‘Laksha Omkara Naama Mahajapam’, involving thousands of devotees.
