Investment meet on coastal shipping in June

An investment summit is proposed to be held in June this year focused on coastal and inland shipping with a view to promote environmental-friendly and economic means of transport in the region.

Forum for regional economic development Gravity 2.0 Vizag Bay Chapter comprising a group of like minded entrepreneurs, academicians and administrators is organising the summit. The meet is being planned to bring together investors, entrepreneurs and domain experts to discuss opportunities and create a concrete plan for operating a regular liner service between the ports of the Visakhapatnam-Rajahmundry-Vijayawada region, founder member of the forum and director of Dreamchip Electronics Private Limited Gopi Kumar Bulusu said. Visakhapatnam is home to Hindustan Ship Yard and the Indian Maritime University Kakinada has a ship and barge building industry. Rajahmundry is a major hub for a large network of navigable waterways under the Godavari river system. In addition, the region boasts of several important ports, including Visakhapatnam and Kakinada, and many potential locations for new jetties at historic locations like Kalipatnam, Tallarevu and Korangi.Besides coastal and inland shipping, the investment summit will also include a general session that focuses on other emerging opportunities, he said.
