A man was arrested by the Cyber Crime Police on the charge of misusing his debit card details to purchase railway tickets.

K. Appa Rao and M. Srinivasa Devarayulu of Tagarapuvalasa were friends. Srinivasa Devarayulu runs an Internet centre at Tagarapuvalasa junction for the past one year. In November 2012, Appa Rao went to the Internet centre and booked train tickets online using his SBI ATM card, according to Cyber Crimes Investigation Cell Inspector B.V. Venkateswara Rao.

Appa Rao informed his ATM card no. and PIN when Srinivasa Devarayulu asked him for the details, not knowing that his friend would cheat him.

The accused purchased railway tickets worth Rs.30,000 by using Rao’s card between November 2012 and April this year. Rao approached the police after noticing that the money was deducted from his account.

Based on the IP address, the Cyber Crime police found the Internet centre and zeroed in on Srinivasa Devarayalu. On the confession of the accused, the police seized a CPU, diary and Rs.30,000 in cash from him.

Mr. Venkateswara Rao cautioned the public against disclosing their ATM card details and PIN numbers to strangers and Internet centre organisers.
