A 17-year-old intermediate student drowned in the Meghadrigedda reservoir on Thursday, while another went missing. He is yet to be traced. The incident occurred when a group of 10 friends went to the reservoir for a jolly trip.

The deceased was identified as P. Sreekar (17), a resident of NAD Kotha Raod, while the missing student is S. Jagadish of Sabbavaram.

According to Pendurthi Police Station Inspector J. Murali, the group from a corporate college at NAD Kotha Road went to Meghadrigedda and Sreekar ventured into the water for a swim. Noticing Sreekar drowning, Jagadish jumped into the water to save him and went missing. Others tried to save the duo, but in vain.

While Sreekar’s body was fished out by the police with the help of locals, Jagadish is yet to be traced.

The search will resume on Friday, according to the inspector.
