INS Ranvir whaler wins at boat pulling regatta

The whaler of INS Ranvir bested 11 other teams of the Eastern Naval Command to win the coveted Cock Ship title for the year at the Eastern Fleet Whaler Pulling Regatta.

The Eastern Fleet Whaler Pulling Regatta held on Saturday at Naval Dockyard here saw 12 teams compete across the four categories – Best Whaler, Officers Boat, Senior Sailors Boat and Junior Sailors Boat.

Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command Vice Admiral Anil Chopra, who was the Chief Guest at the event, gave away prizes to the winners. INS Ranvir emerged first and won the coveted Cock Trophy and earning the right to be called the Cock Ship till the next Regatta.

The Pulling Regatta is an annual event that involves keenly contested Whaler boat races. The Whaler is 27 feet boat that is rowed by five able bodied men called pullers using 17 feet oars, and steered by a coxswain.
