Industries vow to do their bit

All major industries in the city have taken a pledge to protect environment and keep pollution emission levels under check during the World Environment Day celebrations.

The occasion was celebrated in a befitting manner with plantation of trees by Visakhapatnam Port in the coal stacking areas at EQ-1 developed by Adani Port Limited.

Port Chairman M.T. Krishna Babu, Deputy Chairman G.V.L. Satya Kumar, GVMC Commissioner M.V. Satyanarayana and others were present at the programme organised by port environment cell and Adani Vizag Coal Terminal Pvt. Ltd.

Display boards

RINL CMD P. Madhusudan inaugurated the digital display board to indicate the online pollution control parameters in the plant at the Plant Plaza Gate -- first of its kind in the city.

APPCB Joint Chief Environment Engineer K.V. Rao said the initiative truly reflected the commitment of RINL in showing the actual pollution control parameters to the public in a transparent way and advised the company to further improve the ambient air quality.

Mr. Madhusudan said RINL had emerged the ‘greenest steel plant’ in the country and explained how they had invested Rs.1238 crore for environment protection during expansion.

Theme explained

At a meeting organised by HPCL-Visakh Refinery, the theme for this year ‘raise your voice, not sea level’ was explained.

APPCB Environment Engineer K. Ravi Kumar and S. Ramakrishna Rao of GITAM University spoke on the importance of maintaining ecological balance. GM (Operations) G.S. Prasad Sarma and DGM (Technical) B. Balagandharam spoke.

NTPC Simhadri organised various activities such as green walk, free pollution check-up, distribution of fruit bearing trees to employees and plantation at various locations in and around the power plant.

P.V.V. Prasada Rao of AU gave a talk on the World Environment Day. Environment pledge was administered among all the employees by NTPC Group General Manager A.K. Samanta.
