The Asian Development Bank might be able to provide an assistance of 500 million dollars to 600 million dollars to improve basic infrastructure as part of the Visakha-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VSIC). Collector N. Yuvaraj, along with VPT Chairman M.T. Krishna Babu, informed it to reporters after a meeting with an ADB team here on Friday.

A suggestion was made to provide express railway and roadway to transport goods at a lower cost, Mr. Krishna Babu said. A proposal was made to develop roads and railways at a cost of Rs. 7,000 crore. When the ADB team sought the reason for constructing an expressway parallel to the National Highway exclusively for cargo transport, Mr. Krishna Babu explained that the NH was passing through the thickly populated urban areas delaying transport of cargo.

“On behalf of the State government we have explained to the ADB officials the need to improve connectivity network from ports to different parts of the country. The team was also informed that sites for establishing industries are readily available”, Mr. Yuvaraj said.

Decision by January

The ADB team, led by Sekhar Bonu, said it would take a decision on support needed by January.

Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Investments Shatrughna Singh, Commissioner of Industries Rajat Kumar, APEPDCL CMD M.V. Seshagiri Babu, Joint Collector and Commissioner in-charge of GVMC Pravin Kumar, APIIC representatives, and other officials also participated.
