Chairman and Managing Direcltor of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd./Visakhapatnam Steel Plant AP Choudhary on Friday commissioned the country's largest ‘Turbo blower (TB-4) along with auxiliaries including re-circulating cooling water system' for continuous feeding of cold blast air to the new blast furnace no.3 at the steel plant here.

This is a major step towards inaugurating the newly built 3,800 cum volume largest blast furnace (BF 3) constructed at a cost of around Rs.1,450 crore which paves the way for production of hot metal from blast furnace no.3 very shortly. RINL is planning to add one million to 1.5 m. tonne of hot metal from the new blast furnace this year. The BF 3 alone will produce around 3 mtpa of hot metal once its operations are stabilised.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Choudhary said that the day was important in the history of expansion of RINL as this was the last auxiliary unit commissioned for the integrated commissioning of new units.

The market would receive new products of VSP from next month, he said and complimented the project collective and others for the successfully commissioning of TB 4.

Director (Projects) N.S. Rao was present. The dignitaries later planted saplings at BF 3 premises.
