Intel has launched a campaign to increase awareness on the use of personal computer devices to improve people’s skill and employability and increase penetration of PC.
The campaign would cover 40 cities in 10 States over a period of six weeks, Director of Strategy and Planning, Intel India, Jitendra Chaddah told reporters here on Monday.
Vijayawada, Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam are the three cities being covered in the campaign by Intel that provides technology for computer designs, building processors and other essential technologies.
Over the last 10 years PC penetration was 40 per cent in the other BRIC countries where as it was 10 per cent in India, Mr. Chaddah said. The programme called “My Discoveries” was aimed at taking the PC use closer to people. In Visakhapatnam a kiosk would be set up at CMR Central to help people know the advantages of using PCs and how the technology would help them. The idea is to help people use a computer for sending a mail, create a document etc, to begin with.
Digital literacy
As a part of National Digital Literacy Mission, Intel and NAASCOM are partnering a Government of India initiative to lay optic fibre network to 2,500 panchayats.
Mr. Chaddha said as a part of it at Parawada, 15 computes were set up so as to help people learn computers. Two other panchayats in Rajasthan and Tripura have also been connected. As the process of laying the optic fibre goes on, the different needs for educating people would be met, he added.
