For an amateur artist one of the best feelings is to have your works put on display and have visitors come appreciate them. Brush and Palette, a group of enthusiastic art lovers, have organised a two-day exhibition-cum-sale of paintings at The Neptune Hall, Park Hotel.
Some 50 students of art teacher Himangshu Sekhar Ghosh comprising 35 schoolchildren, 10 homemakers, and a few other PSUs employees have put together the show. The works -- some oil paintings, water colours, charcoal sketches, colour sketches and pastels are a selection of the students’ best works. Visitors can encourage the artists by buying the paintings at nominal rates. From simple sceneries done by young students to lifelike portraits there is immense skill on display. Shekhar Ghosh says “This is our second exhibition and people have commented on how much we have improved since last time. Our biggest hurdle is the lack of space to exhibit our works. We are forced to pay for an expensive hall in a five star hotel to conduct our exhibition.”
Udit Nandi, and employee of HPCL says he used to be good at sketching cartoons but learnt how to work with paints and brushes only after joining the classes. He has slowly graduated from copying images to creating original works. Ushashi a student of class six has her colour-pencil sketches on display and is eager to take visitors around showing off her works. She says that she looks forward to her art class every weekend and likes to work with watercolours. Keerthi Balla has managed to capture the expression of a crying baby in a charcoal sketch perfectly and has also painted scenes from Rajasthan in water colour. The exhibition has motivated many students like Ushashi to develop and display their talent. From sceneries, birds, animals, men, women, buildings to gods and goddesses there are a number of vivid images on display. The exhibition is on till January 27 and is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
