Impressive show by candidates from rural areas

Candidates from rural areas claimed first ranks in more than half of the 38 tests conducted as part of the Andhra University Common Entrance Test (AUCET) 2013 for admission into the PG courses of AU and Dr. Ambedkar University (Etcherla, Srikakulam) Both the tests held under AU Engineering Entrance Test 2013 for the five-year integrated dual degree and twinning programmes at AU saw domination of urban candidates with two boys from Visakhapatnam taking the top honours.

Top rankers in 21 out of the 38 tests in AUCET are from rural background, nine of them from Visakhapatnam district, five from Srikakulam district and three each from Vizianagaram and East Godavari and one from West Godavari. They include T.A.E.N.S. Suryanarayana of Chowudvada in K. Kotapadu mandal who secured No.1 rank in politics and public administration test and also among all the arts and commerce tests. One with rural background topped even the English test. Thamarana Simhachalam of Marepalli in Devarapalli mandal of Visakhapatnam has this distinction.

Among the candidates with urban background 10 from Visakhapatnam took the top spot in their respective tests. One each from Kakinada, Guntur, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Bobbili, Narsipatnam and Nuzvid were toppers and a candidate from Odisha - Raj Kishor Mohanty of Berhampur – stood first in geology. Girls were toppers in 17 tests and D. Leela scored the highest number of marks, in mathematics, to top all the AUCET candidates ST candidate Tumudu Sai Charan of Iradapalli in Paderu mandal is top ranker in zoology while A. Nageswara Rao belonging to SC category topped the test for human rights and duties course. The following are top rankers in different tests: M.
