Animators of Indira Kranti Padham staged a dharna in front of the office of District Rural Development Authority (DRDA) here on Monday demanding that the Government implement the assurance it gave two years ago to regularise them as VAOs and to increase monthly salary to Rs. 3,000.

The trade union of IKP animators affiliated to CITU organised the protest. It leaders criticised the government for not keeping its promise while prices of essential commodities were rising.

The animators refused to call off the protest until they met the Project Director of DRDA, who was not in the office, and continued the protest till the evening. While they tried to storm into the office premises, the glass doors were broken. Police reached the spot and controlled the situation.

Later the leaders of CITU union Rama Suseela, Sri Devi, Srinivas and others met PD of DRDA Maheswara Reddy and submitted him a memorandum. The official told them that their demand would be forwarded to the Government.
