Since its inception, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is sustaining quality education and also earned good name in other countries, Registrar of Andhra University K. Rama Mohana Rao said while participating as guest of honour in the 27th convocation of IGNOU at its regional centre here on Wednesday.
IGNOU’s wide range of academic programmes were helpful to people in various parts of the country and also all the age groups, particularly the neglected and deprived section of society, Prof. Rama Mohana Rao said.
The main function of IGNOU’s 27th convocation was held at the Convention Centre in IGNOU, New Delhi, and was also organised at its regional centres located in different parts of the country through teleconference mode.
Prof. Rama Mohana Rao presented university’s gold medal in MBA (banking and finance) to K.R. Pavan Kumar Babji, a student of the local regional centre and degree certificates to the students who successfully completed their programmes at IGNOU.
Activities listedRegional Director S. Raja Rao explained the activities taken up during last year and efforts being made to increase student enrolment in different programmes. Three study centres were established last year. An awareness programme for the rural people working in the dairy sector was being launched in collaboration with the Visakha Dairy and a PG diploma in analytical chemistry and a bachelors programme in library science would be offered from more centres from the next session, Dr. Raja Rao said. The local regional centre was planning to open more study centres in the next academic year, he added.
