President of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India G. Ramaswamy on Saturday said the ICAI Web TV would be launched on July 1 to provide support to the Chartered Accountants to update their knowledge on the best global practices in accountancy.
He was interacting with reporters after addressing a seminar on Direct Tax Code conducted by the local chapter of ICAI.
Educative videos would be telecast to enable members to listen to eminent speakers, Mr. Ramaswamy said. They could access the TV on their desktops, laptops and mobile phones as per their convenience. All important programmes undertaken by ICAI would be telecast live.
Demand for CAs
Stating that the demand for CAs was growing fast despite production of around 20,000 CAs every year, he said ICAI had facilitated campus placements in which offers were received up to $1.2 lakh to $1.5 lakh per annum for foreign posting and Rs.13.92 lakh for domestic posting.
As part of examination reforms, the syllabus was being continuously changed while students were provided 15 minutes extra time for reading the question papers. For reducing stress, alternate day exam pattern had been evolved.
Emphasising the role of IT to increase efficiency in global work environment, he said developing IT infrastructure was very high on the agenda during 2011-12 and advised all the accountants and firms to have their own websites.
Mr. Ramaswamy expressed satisfaction over adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and the scope to convert CA firms into limited liability partnership (LLP) and called for globalisation of Indian accountants.
A lot of FDI was flowing into the country and Indian companies were setting up offices abroad acquiring firms overseas and merging in order to grow bigger and go global. ICAI would collaborate with more international accounting bodies to provide global outlook to Indian accountants.ICAI city chapter chairman P. Vikram presided. ICAI central council members J.
