Celebrating the mastery of spirit over the body Nanduri Prabhaakar crossed the Guinness World Record for non-stop joke narration at 11:24 a.m. on Sunday and was continuing to regale the audience with humorous anecdotes collected from various sources. While the official confirmation of the record will take time, he is trying to narrate for 50 hours non-stop.

Failed attempt

The driving force behind the Visakha Humour Club and an employee of the BSNL, Prabhaakar took up the challenge and held a marathon session of joke narration in 2009.

However, the Guinness did not confirm the record. He followed it up with the authorities only to find that there was a technical glitch due to which his record was not accepted. He was expected to have a maximum of 45 second interlude between the jokes, which he was not aware and so he had to do it all over again.

Guidelines

This time round he had a dialogue with the officials of the Guinness Records and noted down the guidelines and ensured that they were followed.

Break

He was told that he could take a break of four minutes after every hour and also was given an allowance to repeat the jokes after four hours.

He started the Joke Marathon on Saturday at 11:24 a.m. after a formal inauguration by Union Minister of State for Information Technology and Communication Killi Krupa Rani at the office of the General Manager BSNL Telecom District Visakhapatnam.

On an average narrating 10 humorous anecdotes every hour, he carried forward his hourly breaks to take a longish break in the early hours of Sunday.

The judges too were changing after every two hours.

The BSNL officials backed the enthusiasm of their colleague by converting the parking lot into a venue for the record-breaking feat. Senior General Manager Telecom District P Nagaraju, General Manager (Consumer Mobility) RMM Krishna a host of DGMs, AGMs and other colleagues participated in the inaugural on Saturday.

Charity

His breaking of the record, set by Mike Hessman of Ohio in the United States of America in 1992, on Sunday was celebrated by chief patron of Omkar Lions School for the Deaf Khasim Mehdi, chairman of Sishu Vikas Y Uma Rani and coordinator Kameshwari, Ch Visalakshi of Spandana Spurthy and his fellow members of the Humour Club RSN Murthy and Siva Jyothi and scores of well wishers.

The funds raised by the event would go to the aid of students of Sishu Vikas and Omkar and Lion’s School for the Deaf.
