July 16, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:58 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The request for grant of Hudhud relief funds to Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) is now under consideration of Ministry of Finance, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has said.

In response to a query raised in Rajya Sabha by former Union Minister T. Subbarami Reddy, Mr. Parrikar said the Ministry of Defence was aware of the financial crisis and hardships faced by HSL. On Hudhud relief, he said they had forwarded the proposal to the Ministry of Finance for inclusion in first supplementary demands. HSL management has sought a Hudhud relief grant of Rs.200 crore in lieu of loss suffered to its infrastructure when the cyclone hit the city in October, 2014. The Defence Minister informed Mr. Reddy that the order book position of the yard needed to be improved.
