Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited Chairman-cum-Managing Director P. Madhusudan on Monday said they had overcome the devastating impact of cyclone Hudhud with grit and determination of employees.

In his Republic Day address, he expressed satisfaction over bringing back Visakhapatnam Steel Plant back on track in the shortest possible time. He congratulated each and every employee on the resilience and commitment during the calamity and said the management was grateful to the women and children of Ukkunagaram for their immense cooperation and understanding exhibited post-Hudhud.

Mr. Madhusudan said for RINL, the year 2014 had been a very challenging and eventful one. Many new units such as Wire Rod Mill-2, the second Converter in Steel Melting Shop, Top Recovery Turbine, Sinter Heat Waste Recovery Plant - the first of its kind in India and many associated facilities were put on stream, marking the completion of Stage-1 expansion.

The Blast Furnace-1 was blown in after modernisation and ERP system was put on stream for improving the business processes and operations. The string of measures taken to improve the bottom line had resulted in increase in profits by 52 per cent during the first nine months of the calendar year, he said.

Early completion of commissioning of the Finishing Mills, maximisation of production volumes, taking forward the modernisation projects as per schedule, focus on techno-economic parameters, cost optimisation, innovative strategies for marketing through differentiation and value addition, were some of the key areas, which would require renewed focus, he said.

School children of Ukkunagaram presented a scintillating performance highlighting the courage shown by VSP employees in facing the crisis after Hudhud cyclone.

The CISF jawans demonstrated the capability of diffusing a crisis situation in the event of an attack.
