Hudhud compensation paid, says Collector

Parliamentary Standing Committee is expected to visit the district on January 10 next to review the relief work done after the October 12 cyclone Hudhud and what is to be done in future, according to Collector N. Yuvaraj.

At a press conference here on Friday, Mr. Yuvaraj said Union Minister for HRD Smriti Irani was also expected to visit the city on January 5 to examine the land suggested to establish an IIM near Gambheeram on the city outskirts. Input subsidy of Rs. 30.52 crore for agriculture crops was sent to banks to be credited to accounts of 93,381 farmers and Rs. 42 crore was sent to the accounts of 75,503 victims of house damages as part of the post-Hudhud relief measures, Mr. Yuvaraj said.

Input subsidy

A sum of Rs. 29 crore was received as first instalment of input subsidy for horticulture farmers and would be credited to the accounts of 26,000 farmers. A total of 1,52,806 agriculture farmers, who suffered more than 50 per cent damage to their crops in an area of 80,419 acres, were identified to receive input subsidy of Rs. 46.46 crore. The number of houses damaged was 1,46,799 and after verification and identifying with Aadhar number, 1,17,708 were approved to receive Rs. 75.99 crore. A sum of Rs. 42 crore was sent to the bank accounts of 75,503 beneficiaries, while about 45,000 had not given details of bank accounts and Aadhar number. They have to give details to their respective Tahsildars by Saturday, the Collector said.
