Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited will shutdown continuous catalytic reformer (fluidised catalytic cracker cum naptha hydrotreater) unit of Visakh Refinery on April 10 for maintenance.
“The secondary processing unit is closed once in four years as part of maintenance,” HPCL Visakh Refinery in-charge and Executive Director V.V.R. Narasimham told The Hindu on Tuesday.
The closure will continue for 30 to 35 days. As a result the high-sulphur gasoline will be exported. HPCL will make alternate arrangements to meet the requirement for Euro II and III-compliant MS oil to meet the market requirement.
The refinery, which had a major accident following a blast in the cooling tower on August 23, 2013 had reduced its production to 40 per cent of rated capacity. A few months later the production was revived to its full capacity.
Mr. Narasimham said they had taken all pre-cautions on safety front. The refinery has an annual capacity of 8.3 million tonnes.
