Hong Kong team on goodwill visit

It offers assistance to businessmen from Andhra Pradesh

A high-level delegation from Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), a semi-government organisation, shared insights on international trade opportunities and practical assistance they could offer to assist Indian businessmen mainly from Andhra Pradesh.

The team comprising HKTDC regional director, Southeast Asia and South Asia Peter Wong and Consultant, South Asia Rajesh Bhagat attended a business seminar organised by Vizagapatam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and interacted with Visakhapatnam Port Trust Chairman M.T. Krishna Babu and AP Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation president G. Sambasiva Rao. The Hong Kong team informed the entrepreneurs on how to take advantage of the array of business services provided by HKTD. They said HKTDC imparts value additions such as providing marketing opportunities, market intelligence and SME development programmes that help Indian businessmen grasp international opportunities.

The seminar focused on HKTDC’s flagship knowledge events, namely Asian Financial Forum (AFF) and the Asian Logistics and Maritime Conference (ALMC).While AFF is a dynamic global platform for businesses to explore investment opportunities, ALMC is the largest logistics and maritime event of its kind in Asia. Both these platforms create better synergies of finance, logistics and business for enterprises in Vizag and Andhra Pradesh as a whole.

Mr. Bhagat said HKTDC set up in 1966 is a statutory body dedicated to create opportunities for Hong Kong’s businesses. He said HKTDC had 46 offices globally including 13 on the Chinese mainland. VCCI president M.V. Monish Row expressed satisfaction over the visit of the team and declared that there was huge potential to explore ties between Hong Kong and Andhra Pradesh in several areas like infrastructure, logistics and food processing.

Visit to Vizag Port

Mr. Wong and Mr. Bhagat who called on Mr. Krishna Babu said their main theme of visiting the port was to understand about the economy and trade, investment climate and opportunities and to have mutual cooperation.

Mr. Wong said the initiative was aimed at fostering strong ties between Hong Kong and India as well as strengthening business ties with the port and other establishments.

AP Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation president G. Sambasiva Rao held discussions with the team during their visit to SBI Kohinoor branch. The team advised him to send a delegation to logistics conference being held in Hong Kong in November. A trade delegation was also invited from the chamber.

Mr. Rao urged HKTDC to put their investments in Sunrise Andhra Pradesh especially in sector like logistics, pharma, IT and tourism and promised full support to further strengthen bilateral trade.
