A high alert was sounded in the city in the wake of the blasts in Mumbai on Wednesday evening. Bomb squads launched checks at hotels and public places like RTC Complex and sniffer dogs were pressed into service.

“We are on high alert and checking of vehicles is going on at all important junctions. Security has been beefed up at vital installations,” Police Commissioner J. Purnachandra Rao said. Most of the personnel at the police stations are out on the roads on security duty with only skeleton staff remaining at the stations. It's learnt that the Intelligence Bureau is also on high alert.
