Help out an avian friend

It’s that time of the year again when taps run dry and throats get parched. Several areas in the country are already feeling the shortfall of water and are reeling under drought-like conditions. On a sunny day we can carry a bottle of water with us or buy a drink from a nearby shop; but spare a thought for the hapless birds in the city and how difficult it must be for them to survive in our concrete jungle without water. Birds are silent sufferers and often perish as they are unable to find water. With just a little help from citizens in the city they can survive another blazing Indian summer.

All we need to do is set out a bowl of fresh water regularly throughout the summer so that birds can be assured of a source of water.

This is a campaign that has been taken up by the Nature Forever Society to make people think beyond their own glass of water.

Just follow a few simple steps to help birds out: Make sure that the bowl is not very deep as small birds may drown. Ensure that there are a few sticks in the water as this will attract insects like butterflies. Do not add any chemicals to the water and avoid metal or plastic containers.

Earthen vessels are the best. Spread the word and keep yourself and the world hydrated! Visit www.natureforever.org for more simple but effective solutions.
