September 28, 2012 11:12 am | Updated 11:12 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

A high-level meeting is to be conducted next week to review the state of tourism in the district, Minister for Infrastructure, Investment and Ports Ganta Srinivasa Rao said.

Addressing the media after inaugurating a photo exhibition on tourism organised by the Department of Tourism to mark the World Tourism Day at the Visakha Museum in Vizag on Thursday, he said the meeting would look at the follow up on the various proposals put up to the Centre and the State Government on promotion of tourism.

The Centre accepting State Government’s request is appointing a senior officer to head the tourism operations in the region following the State to give a fillip to the sector, he said.

The department is also planning to introduce helicopter tours to different tourist locations in the district, he added. An eco-tourism project would be taken up at the Erramatti Dibbalu to prevent its encroachment and also protect the unique natural formation, the Minister said.

Glass bogies

Two all glass bogies are to be added to the train to Araku to help the tourists watch the nature’s splendour during the train journey, he said and added that a special train may not be possible but two coaches are being attached to the existing train.
